It is obvious that some people choose to remain invisible and often some people living with HIV find it hard to get on with their lives knowing their status. However I do agree with your comment of talking to people raising awareness and educating people about HIV. HIV affects more people than actually highlighted in yearly figures and HIV is continually an issue that constantly remains at the near botttom of local, national and international political agendas. It really is up to us all to unite and standup campaigning and advocating the cause. Direct and indirect discrimination exist in many forms in everyday practice. Prejudice and stigma still remain prevalent in all communities; this is particularly true with reference to HIV and AIDS being borne as they are out of fear and ignorance. People living with HIV and AIDS have many rights, but most of these are never relayed to them via the services provided to them. This is compounded by failures in the communication skills of service providers and their not reacting to the views, comments and concerns of those living with HIV and AIDS. As such, service providers to a large degree fail to respond adequately to actual and potential service users’ need and wants. World AIDS day is everyday for many of us and we need to make far more people aware of this too. I really do admire and respect your words and that gave me the inspiration to send this response. Who ever you are good luck and keep up the good work you do. M
