Just wondering what to do, been recently perscribed Citalopram 20 mg but a bit nervous about taking them as I've heard of the fairly lengthy list of common side effects that can occur whilst taking these tablets.
Also very worried about the side effect of increased depressive mood and thoughts of suicide.
Anyone out there who is currently taking this or know of Citalopram and could give me advice or help clarify my concerns?
Re:Looking for advice on Citalopram 20 mg
Hi, I've been on Citalopram now for nearly 4 years as a result of post natal depression bringing underlying depression to a head. I started on 20mg and experienced some very mild side effect symptons like nausea, dizziness and headaches - but I must stress, these were mild and only lasted a week or so. Since then, this drug has kept my mood very stable. I am now in my second period of taking 40mg after stressful situations have lowered my mood further. Again mild side effects occured for a few days during increase and decrease of dosage. In the past, I have suffered thoughts of suicide but this drug has never caused me any such problems. Hope this helps.
Re:Looking for advice on Citalopram 20 mg
Hi,
I have taken Citralopram in the past, two lots and found it helped me no end. I was on quite an average dose (sorry can't remember if it was 20mg or not) to start with then as i felt better i lowered it to one every other day, then i eventually came off them gradually.
It sounds to me that you are worrying about the side effects, i have to be honest and say i didnt notice any side effects, not that i can remember. I think that drug companies have a legal obligation to state all their findings, but what you really have to look at are the common ones and not the rare ones.
If your doctor had prescribed these then maybe you should run through your thoughts with him/her? I have to say that they really helped me but i don't really want to be on antidepressants for the long term so worked to come off but you must do this gradually.
Anyway, talk to your GP if you are worried but i think that side effects are really nothing to worry about and your mental health is more important.
Good luck and hope i helped.
