The Breastfeeding Network aims to be an independent source of support and information for breastfeeding women and others. The supporter line (9.30am-9.30pm) is run by trained mothers who have breastfed themselves. BfN has a drugline which is run on a voluntary basis by a pharmacist who is also a BfN breastfeeding supporter. The calls are generally not answered during the day due to work commitments of the volunteers but there is an answerphone to leave messages which are returned as soon as possible.

The Baby Café Charitable Trust co-ordinates a network of branded drop-in centres which support breastfeeding mothers, because they believe that every breastfeeding mum deserves free, top quality help and support. A Baby Café drop-in centre is generally open once a week and set out with coffee tables, comfy sofas and play areas for accompanying toddlers. All pregnant or breastfeeding mums are welcome to drop in at any time during opening hours. No appointment is necessary and partners, supporters and health professionals are also welcome. Help is available on all aspects of breastfeeding and its impact on daily life - from starting to stopping and all the variations in between.

Little Angels breastfeeding support is a community business that employs mothers from the local community to support breastfeeding mothers. They run nine breastfeeding support groups, including a daily support group on the postnatal wards at the maternity unit. ALL breastfeeding mothers within Blackburn with Darwen borough and Hyndburn are assigned a Little Angel to support them with breastfeeding. They run a 24 hour telephone support line and a breastfeeding drop in centre in Darwen. They also deliver breastfeeding training to peer supporters, mothers and health professionals.

The only organisation in the UK focusing solely on all aspects of living successfully with Down's syndrome, they have grown in 35 years from being a local parent support group to a national charity with over 20,000 members, a national office in Teddington Middlesex, offices in Northern Ireland and Wales and a regional development team. Despite this, the organisation is run by a total staff of only 38 (many of them part time), and a network of around 100 regional volunteer-led support groups.
