Background: At the time of interview, this 34 year old, unmarried, White British woman was breastfeeding her almost 4 year old daughter. She was a baby yoga teacher.

Brief outline:Talks about "natural" birth and breastfeeding; pressure from Social Services and health professionals to conform to expected behaviours; conflicting advice, prolonged breastfeeding and the difficulties of weaning a toddler.

She did not find the professionals that she dealt with very helpful and is critical of the western system of childbirth and infant feeding.
 
She got in touch with her body through pregnancy and breastfeeding and tried to follow her instinct. Breastfeeding drew her and her daughter together.
 
She thinks that people are conditioned to behave in certain ways and that the barriers to breastfeeding for disadvantaged women are social.
 
She was getting pressure to wean her four year old but needed help with what to feed her. She was also worried about smoking and dental caries*.
 
She did not want to take methadone or Prozac while she was breastfeeding and preferred to use natural methods to withdraw from drugs.
 
She introduced solids without trouble at six months but later her daughter became fussy about food. Nursery meals were not an option and she had budgeting worries.
