Background: Audrey is a retired post office clerk, widowed, with 2 grown-up stepchildren. Ethnic background/nationality: White British.

Brief outline:Audrey first noticed symptoms 11-12 years ago. Diagnosis confirmed three years later (1995). Still living at home with support from a daily carer and respite care in a hospice.

The first thing she noticed was difficulty pegging clothes on the line.
 
She does not want to go to the day centre at the hospice where she sometimes has respite care. She does not want to meet others with MND or talk about illness.
 
As she's 70 she's more interested in quality of life than quantity, but she would probably think differently if she were young.
 
She's happy entertaining herself at home and seeing friends, but is sad she can't do the gardening any more.
 
She has made a Living Will and feels it is her right to decide what she wants, whatever her family or friends think. She'd rather be in a hospice than a hospital or nursing home.
