I am frequently asked when I began to have suspicions of pending disease and these are my recollections of events that may have signalled the beginning of my motor neurone condition.
1978 playing squash left arm not swinging the racquet properly, was necessary to use the right arm
1980 playing squash breathing was beginning to be laboured
1985 stopped running in the early morning with our dog due to breathlessness
1990 early morning, very bad asthma attack. Received an injection which settled the breathing. Issued with Ventolin inhaler. First diagnosis of COPD
1995 left shoulder muscle tears. Consultant administers three cortesin injections. No use.
2000 left bicep tears. Left arm movement restricted to below shoulder level.
2005 right bicep tears. Right arm movement not restricted in any way although weak.
2007 began to notice serious loss of body strength
2008 Move to UK from Zimbabwe.
2008 First GP blames loss of finger and arm movement to age related arthritis
2009 Second GP blames loss of finger and arm movement to age related arthritis
2010 Third GP decides that the loss of finger and arm movement needed further investigation
2010 June 8th attend the x-ray dept at hospital for neck and upper back x-ray and head scan
2010 July 14th outpatient appointment with Consultant’s neurology clinic. First diagnosis of Motor Neural disease.
Which type of the MN disease would appy to me?
