Background: Is a married father with 1 adult child and is a retired lorry driver. Ethnic background/nationality: White/Scottish.

Brief outline:He had a stroke during a heart bypass aged 74 which caused right weakness & speech, memory & emotional problems. Medication: perindropril, furosemide (blood pressure) simvastatin (cholesterol), aspirin, dipyridamole (antiplatelet), dosulepin (depression).

His catheter sometimes leaks overnight. He worried that the carers in the home would get fed up but they reassured him it was part of their job.
 
He was surprised when he cried during a Christmas carol even though there was nothing to cry about. He had not been told it was normal to be more emotional after a stroke.
 
He realised that his wife could no longer lift him if he fell so he decided it would be better for him to go into a care home.
 
He felt the speech therapists gave up on him because they couldn't make out what he was saying which made him feel rotten.
