It's been a long time since you asked the question. I hope you have found answers already, but if not .....
I'm not a medical expert, but my understanding is that you are given drugs which bust clots so that the blood flow to the affected part of the brain is restarted, limiting the long term damage. These drugs only work for strokes caused by clots. I don't know if there are acute tretments for strokes caused by bleeding.
