My Nan has had a diagnosis of dementia for over 4 years now and our family have all assistted in supporting her and caring for her needs. A couple of months ago my Grandad (Nan's husband) was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Nan is 83 and Grandad is 91. They live in a tenanted property which is a 2 storey terrrace and 2 bedrooms plus another small room (it is a council property and they have lived there for more than 50 years), Nan has been increasingly getting up in the night and fell downstairs before Christmas and has since gone in to respite.
Family disagreements aside (!) the majority believes a care home is not the place for my Nan. She is still active, capable of coherent communication and aware of lots of things. We are racking our brains..how do we keep Nan and Grandad together? He doesn't wasnt to leave his house (his is actually quite well at the moment, but this could change very quickly). Nan is disturbing Grandad in the night and he also needs his rest.
Does anyone have any experience of a similar situation / any advise please as we are really struggling,
Thank you
