Readers of Healthtalkonline might be interested to know that there has been some positive news come out today (8 July) from an organisation called DeNDRoN.
DeNDRoN is trying to increase the number of clinical studies in dementia that NHS patients can take part in. In the past, there was relatively little research in dementia because this area was seen as a low priority for researchers, and dementia patients were often diagnosed outside of hospitals where clinical studies have traditionally been centred.
The good news is that while only 800 people a year were taking part in dementia clinical studies back in 2006, that has now increased to nearly 5000 people.
The more people who take part in research, the more chance there is of finding treatments that make a difference, so this seems to be really good news.
