Female
Explains why she thinks two of her sons committed suicide. Stephen had paranoid schizophrenia. Both boys took drugs such as cannabis and both had become paranoid.

Both her sons left suicide notes. Both told the rest of the family to remember the “good times” they had had together and to forget the “bad times”.

Susan had not been told about changes that might predict that Stephen would take his own life. She is angry that he had access to illegal drugs while in hospital.

Susan felt depressed and suicidal after another son died by suicide. She felt she was going mad and went to her GP for help.

Susan and her husband still find it hard to talk about Barry and Stephen. Susan says that she understands why some marriages break up after someone in the family dies by suicide.

Stephen’s death was reported in the evening paper. The huge headline “Father’s grief” shocked Susan (Stephen’s mother).

She could talk to the counsellor in confidence and found counselling helpful. It was hard to talk to her husband after Stephen died because of feelings of guilt and blame.

Having a tattoo with her son’s names was a personal way of remembering them. She and her husband often visit their memorial bench in the churchyard.

After Susan’s second son died she asked SeeSaw for help. Her daughter only wanted counselling two or three times, but she can have more counselling if and when she wants it.
