In the middle of the night Alison heard that the house where her children and estranged husband were sleeping was on fire.

Alison went to her house, and then waited in the pub for news of her children. She did not know if they were dead or alive. It felt surreal.

Alison cried when the liaison officers left. She had first thought they were there to support her but decided that they had only called at the house to get as much information as possible.

Alison has created pages on a website so that others can share memories, light candles and leave tributes to her children. Other children have also made a garden at school to remember them.

Alison was allowed to go to the police station to see the statements and other documents that had been collected for the inquest. She wanted to be well prepared for what she might hear on the day.

Alison had to wait months to see a counsellor who specialised in bereavement through trauma. The counsellor struck her as ill prepared, so she did not return.

When Alison’s other children died she asked Jeremiah’s Journey for advice about what to tell her two year old son. She told him gradually, which she understood was the right thing to do.
