Linda’s son, Kevin, was stabbed to death by his sister’s ex-boyfriend. Linda heard what had had happened when Kevin’s work mate phoned her almost immediately after the murder took place.

Linda was allowed to see Kevin after a post-mortem, and was upset that she wasn’t allowed to touch him. She felt that he had become police property.

Linda invited a newspaper and a magazine to write about her son, Kevin, and about his death; she was collecting money for the hospital and she wanted the publicity.

Linda believes that by scattering his ashes Kevin could ‘go over to the light’. She has given some of the ashes to her other children and to his girlfriend because not all wanted them scattered.

The family have dedicated their hallway to Kevin. They found a graffiti artist who painted a six foot image of their son’s face on the wall. They have also bought a bench and roses in his memory.

Linda wrote a VPS about the way Kevin’s murder had affected her family. The judge suggested that Kevin’s girlfriend’s Statement had affected the length of sentence.

The trial took place a year after Kevin’s death and lasted for over two weeks. Linda said it was horrific from start to finish. A man was found guilty of murder.

Linda found help through Brahma Kumaris and through meditation. She believes that her son has ‘passed on’ and that he is no longer on this plane.

Linda said that there is no template on death; people have to find their own way forward, whether through religion, a higher belief, the family, counselling, self-help groups, the internet or books.
