Had my surgery last Friday, 7th May, and was allowed home on Sunday 9th May. Found that one of the biggest problems is the lack of clear guidance on what, and what not to do. Obviously, there is clear information on not lifting heavy weights, or any form of abdominal exercise. But what about other things - I would like to try and have a bath, in orer to help keep my catheter clean. A brief trawl on the Internet suggests from a US helpsite that baths are out - why wasn't I told this. My worst problem at the moment is pain caused from my abdomen if I cough, so I'm trying hard not to - any information on when this problem will cease. Anyone else agree that more information about post-operative recovery would be ueful?

Re:Post-Operative Recovery

I had no complaints about my post-op recovery program. The help and advice at the Churchill in Oxford was excellent. I received help from a visiting district nurse in coping with the catheter. A physiotherapist counselled me on the importance of pelvic floor exercises. And after 6 months I had another psa test and a follow-up appointment with the urologist. At that juncture they offered me help with e.d. problems.
