Having been diagnosed with the genetic condition BRCA1 in 1999 after my diagnosis & treatment with breastcancer (1998) at the age of 48, I have found that the implications of this condition, the lyphoedema, the preventative measures advised and not always taken and, after a disease free interval of 12 years, another episode of breastcancer with which I am now having treatment, are immensely life-altering, interfering with about every facet of my life. I wondered if there were any others who have been through or are going through these experiences, esp. mastectomies, ovariectomies and total hysterectomies, chemo and radiotherapy and the experience of being the person responsible of warning the rest of your siblings about the risks of genetic abnormalities. Is there a support group for people with the BRCA genetic disorders? Apart from the excellent support I have received from NHS staff, Macmillan Nurses, Fysiotherapists etc, where are the patients with these "disorders"?
How have others coped with this problem/these difficulties? Lina Cornelia
