I was diagnosed with osteoporosis at 55 and was treated with Fosamax, then Actonel, both had side effects, then I went on to Evista which after six months gave me swollen veins in one of my legs. I stopped it and after two months thereabouts the veins disappeared. I then tried Strontium Ranelate which after two weeks gave me a life threatening rash, I immediately stopped taking anything at all. I am taking my chances with osteoporosis as I have not had any fractures and may not according to my consultant. I have found through experience that the treatments are more risky than the disease. I am now 62 and still have not had any frractures.
