I am new and from the US. I want to move to the UK so I am checking out the healthcare as I have severe and chronic pain that prevents me from leading a normal life. I have found that with pain management, that is pain medication, I can live a decent life. The toil that the pain has taken on me emotionally, physically, and spiritually, cannot be underestimated, and only understood by those who have personally been there. Imagine my horror to read things like "you have to manage it, rather than get rid of it" and "Most medications are for acute pain, not for chronic pain, due to their nature for the patient to become physically dependent on them" . Yes, you may become physically dependent on medication, and you have to switch up medications and constantly be aware of your level of tolerance and do what you can to keep it down. But I ask you this, if pain medication is not to be used for chronic pain sufferers, what is the alternative? A life (if you can call it that) full of pain and agony? The quality of life for people with chronic pain in the UK is deplorable! I am absolutely horrified to find that there is an entire country of people suffering from chronic pain, and a healthcare system that doesn't believe that quality of life is more important than the risk of taking medications which may cause dependency, under the watchful eye of the healthcare provider!!!!!! I have been through every type of therapy, etc available, I am allergic to the injections, and without pain meds not only do I have no quality of life, I can't walk, stand, or even sit! but I am suicidal from the constant pain! Truly, my heart goes out to each and every one of you suffering under this system, and you should know that there is a way out of pain!!!!!!! I cannot move to the UK if this is what lies in store for me when I try to receive health care! You will all be in my prayers tonight. I am sorry that you cannot even sleep due to the pain in your neck. I hope that somehow it gets better for you!
